Pictures of broken motor mount...

Here are some pictures of the motor mount that broke. It is the only one on the 7thgens that is not a drum style. Instead it is a hollow rubber cone that the bolt spindles through. It is the one on the driver's side nearest the power steering pulley. Whenever you drive aggressively, you torque the motor and it rocks back, pulling on this rubber cone. Well, after numerous drag runs and autocross events, and a few moments of hard driving on the street, my mount broke. I am very surprised that people running nitrous haven't had this problem yet. As far as I know, no one makes any stronger aftermarket mounts for the 7thgens yet. But, if anyone hears of any please let us know. I think over time a lot more people will see this problem, as it seems to be a VERY inferior design. It may have been designed that way for space constraint reasons.

How big of a deal was it to fix/replace? I'd like to try auto crossing some time, but I don't wanna tear my car up. Do you think strut bars would make any difference? Thanks.

Not hard to replace, just remove the old one and put on the new one. A strut bar won't make any difference on this problem. Your motor is gonna torque back every time you drop your clutch quick and mash the gas. If you are using the stock clutch, I don't think you will have a problem like this. It does not grab like an aftermarket clutch will. But, hard use will eventually wear out your clutch.

The mount has to have a rubber casing because a solid metal one would vibrate the car like hell. That mount isn't designed for hard racing applications so I don't think its defective. TRW used to make heavy duty mounts for almost every car, so you might want to try them.
