honda brakes
is it just me or do honda brakes for 2k1 civics really suck?? im still under 15k miles and i hear all kinds of grinding and screechin noises, but i get them checked and the mechanics say da pads are just dirty and im good for another 10k miles. i aint no mechanic but isn't it bad if anything on ur car makes abnormal noises like dat?? oh yea, and i notice it takes a way long time for my brakes to kick in when i step on da peddle, wtf is dat sh|t???
It is normal for brakes to pick up dirt and debris from the environment and then make squeals and noises. This happens with any cars' brakes. A trip to the CAR WASH usually gets rid of these sounds. The drum brakes that are used in the rear are very prone to this though...
...Which brings up your next question. Honda uses a very soft brake. The problem is not really that they are cheap brakes, because they're not, it's the drum brakes that are in the rear. They offer minimal assistance to the front discs. I personally don't understand why HONDA neglects this area of their cars so much. Especially when in most tests on braking distance you'll notice that HONDA never does well. If HONDA had used all-wheel disc brakes you'd see a drastic improvement in stopping distance and brake feel.
I just put my foot to the floor grip the wheel and pray...doesn't everybody?

lemon is right. Honda has chosen to use VERY soft rotors. Mine were warped at 5,000 miles and Honda didn't see a defect in that. I could understand if I had flat spots on my tires for them to not want to honor the warrenty but that wasn't the case. Regardless you are better off buying good aftermarket brakes.

It's really funny how you go around pointing out these "well-known" life-and-death deficiencies on Hondas and Civics, and yet you still ended up buying one.
$100 brembos+ $50 AEM pads=happy person
Honda charges $160 to resurface your stock rotors and new Honda pads........WHAT A JIP !!!!
I've been pretty satisfied so far.....Shorter easier stops, cleaner rims, and extra cash to spend on other parts........

i have 32K on my car and my brakes are just now starting to go out. i guess i have gotten lucky with my car after reading all the posts about problems ya'll have....i really dont have any
man, i hope that i don't have any of the brake problems that you guys describe. i don't think i will 'cause i do almost all highway driving--no stop and go. plus, i think that my '02 ex stops fairly quick--damn deer! according to edmunds the '01 civic ex coupe stops in 124ft EDIT: from 60mph. that's not bad in my eyes.

My brakes have been making a clicking noise since day one, but I was advised by many other Civic owners that it's just normal for Honda brakes. I had my mechanic uncle look at them and he said everything looked OK. It always happens kind of like a delay a sec or two after I apply pressure to my brake....oh well, I've just learned to live with it!!! And I still love by baby!!!
