how do you know when a strut is blown?

How do you know when a strut is blown or leaking? I just put Goldline springs on about 3 weeks ago. Everything was great for about 2 weeks. Now I get a knocking noise from the front right. I mainly hear it at low speeds going over small bumbs. It's more of a popping noise. It's hard to describe, but it's wasn't there before. I only dropped the car a little over an inch.

If I need new struts, what do you guys recommend for my application?

Check for leakage and do the butt test on ride quality. You may have Part #7 installed incorrectly. I did and had the same sounds you describe. It only goes one way or it rubs on the inside of the strut tower. If you uninstall the strut it is pretty easy to see if you have rubbage. I have about 20K on my OEM struts with my H&R springs (and racing) with none blown (yet). Hope this helps.

I appreciate it. I'll look at it this weekend. Not to sound stupid, but what is the butt test?

Just how it feels to you on the road. Bouncy? etc. Seat of your pants.

It vibrates the steering wheel. It has to be a blown strut. Everything was great for the 1st two weeks. And I'll admit, I drove it pretty hard. I was so happy that they rode so good that I intentionally went over speed bumps fast and things like that. Not any more.

vibration in the steering wheel usually indicates whells out of balence or the car is out of alingment. Take it out on a smooth straight road and see how it tracks.

Family Man, I really like how your car looks, discrete but sporty at the same time. Its the best looking sedan posted around. I have to admit that when I got my sedan I didn´t even wanted to see the white, but after looking at yours the color fits the car perfectly.

As for leaking struts, how exactly do you spot a leaking strut? should I look for liquid actually spilling off the strut? My car is having some problems on the rear suspension, started with squeaking when cold, then squeaking all the time, now the car feels like and 80´s mustang with 50K miles. dealer is replacing the suspension bushings, but I still suspect the struts... what would you do? even though the car is on warranty I´m tempted to just replace the rear struts with new factory units,
