Another Honda with excessive clutch travel!!
I bought an '89 Accord in '92 and drove it until my '01 EL. It always had a "heavy" clutch meaning it took a lot of force to work it. But it also exhibited excessive travel. That meant you would depress it to the floor to shift and then you could lift it up at least 2/3rds of the way before it would start to engage. You had to "feather" the last three inches or jerk. Three times the Honda garage tried to fix it and every time it reverted back to this behavior after 4-5 weeks.
Last year I tested and bought an EL. Beautiful buttery clutch action (Honda's rep) and I was in heaven. Five-six months later and this clutch is giving me a bad case of "Deja Vue". Engagement is near the top of the pedal movement in all but 1st gear. Is this typical of Honda clutches? Ouch!
I mean, I can live with it but I don't like it. In the best of all possible worlds you should begin to feel resistance at 1/3 or so of travel, no?

Well you can change where the clutch engages if it bugs you that much. With the soft clutchs Honda used for the 7th gen civic it doesn't really matter where it engages its hard to feel either way. Or another option buy like an ACT clutch then you will definatly know where it engages. You don't really want it to engage at the floor that makes shifting harder. Either way it can be adjusted.
