Hard Starting

I have a 05 Civic with 400,003 km on it. I’ve noticed it has been hard to start after fueling the last couple times. It will eventually start but you will have to feather the gas peddle for about 30 seconds. It will then run find. I’m wondering if my fuel pump is on its way out.

Re: Hard Starting

Got CEL on? Got fault codes? (freekin clues)

I'd check if the purge solenoid is stuck open.

Re: Hard Starting

Is that the solenoid in front of the gas tank. If that is the case that’s where I have the problem. I’ve had that code on for about 2 years now but the car was working fine. Thanks for the info.

Re: Hard Starting

No. Purge is next to the throttle body, its vapor line has the small green cap on it.

You can check it by trying to suck through the valve from the side that connects to the intake manifold---it should have zero flow while no power is applied. If it leaks or is stuck open, that would let fuel vapors into the intake causing symptoms similar to too rich or flooding, especially after a tank fill.
