2004 Civic EX problem with P2646
My 2004 civic recently had a check engine light come on for P2646 - A rocker arm actuator system performance or stuck off bank 1. I can clear the code and it won't come back on until I hit about 4k rpm's. So far I tried the following:
1. Removed the vtec solenoid and cleaned it (did this twice) and that didn't work
2. replaced the oil pressure sensor (I believe that is what it is called) on the vtec solenoid, light still on
3. Changed the oil, light still on
4. Bit the bullet and bought a brand new vtech solenoid from Honda thinking this has to be the problem and still nothing.
If anyone has some tips, please help!

Re: 2004 Civic EX problem with P2646
Valves should be fine because the head was fully rebuilt less then 10k miles ago. I bought the car with 78k miles, it wasn't running at that time. I had the head resurfaced, valves replaced, new timing belt because the belt was ripped when I got it, drive it for about 10k miles after that until this light came on.

should be?
nothing there says you verified or checked to make sure the valve clearances were within spec....looks like your assuming things, start doing some actual work

Valve clearances won't cause the code.
It's time to begin learning and understanding how the system is supposed to work, and perform appropriate testing to verify such.
Got B+ to the solenoid when it's supposed to turn on?
Does the pressure switch change states when the solenoid turns on?
Does the ECM see the switch change state when the solenoid turns on?
Got over 50 PSI oil pressure at 3k rpm? (SWAG, I didn't look up the actual spec)
Did you check what's in the picture in this post: https://www.civicforums.com/forums/36-mechanical-problems-vehicle-issues-fix-forum/365428-p2646-code-2005-civic-vtec-not-kicking-yo.html#post4694759

Every single valve was checked and set after the head came back from the machine shop, this is something you have to do. I don't see the valves being out of spec after less then 10k miles.

Yes I was the one that checked them and set them to spec after putting the head on. Honestly I don't don't see the valves having anything to do with P2646 unless they were really out of spec and I know that is not the case.

And as ezone says: "Valve clearances won't cause the code."
I am here learning, more than offering any good advice.
From the sounds of it, you didn't pay a lot for the title to this car.

Did this vtec code problem start immediately or shortly after the head was done?
Or did it start 10k miles after the head was done?
Or did it start 10k miles after the head was done?
