Clunking noise from driver side

Hello Civic forums (still new to this) I have a 2001 Civic EX with 127k miles on it, nearing 128k. I recently did the whole front suspension a few months ago. The lower control arm, brakes, tie rod end, sway bar links, sway bar bushings, ball joints and springs and struts have been changed. Now very recently I started hearing a new sound like metal hitting metal or a clunking noise. I found out the front engine mount had to change so I replaced that but the noise is still there. I've suspected the outer CV joints but they're fine. The inner one is on the driver's side is actually leaking grease I think. Does anyone think that could be the problem? Has anyone else came across this noise? If it helps I also had the alignment done and I was told the subframe is a little off, however my car hasn't been in any accidents.

Any help or suggestions is much appreciated!

Is it leaking grease, or isn't it?

Can you see a torn rubber boot? If your answer is "yes", then it is quite possible that a new rebuilt halfshaft (do both sides) will take care of your problem.

I guess it is possible to just replace the torn boot and repack it with grease.
More experienced folks here will answer that question. I always had the shafts replaced as a pair.

c/v joint normally dont clunk, they are relatively easy to diagnose, the make more noise when turn sharply, they rarely make any noise going straight even if they are totally shot

Sorry I should have also mentioned whenever I go over a bump or small dip in the road it makes that noise. I'm not sure what else it could be, I only hear it from the drivers side

All those have been changed, I'll have to take a better look underneath when I can, school semester is coming up soon and I'm leaving on holiday for a week

Figured out the problem, the sway bar links were in fact loose. I don't know how they got loose but they just needed to be tightened. Got it tightened a while back but only now i got back to posting here.

Cool Re: Clunking noise from driver side

I had a clunk on my 01 civic coming from the driver's side when accelerating from a stop and when heavy braking. The noise started right after I had the subframe out of the car when changing the transmission input shaft bearing. A year later, and after replacing nearly everything in the front end with no success, I finally found the issue. Apparently the subframe should be tightened with weight on the tires, not when jacked up. I loosened the 4 -17mm bolts holding it, let the car off the jack stands, then tightened them back up. Clunking is finally gone! Another thing I did was make sure the sway bar was aligned correctly, equal distance from the control arm on both sides – loosen the 2 bushing brackets and use a pry bar to wiggle it left or right as needed. Hopefully this helps someone before replacing everything like I did. I even paid a mechanic to diagnose the noise, he had me replacing parts unnecessarily. Cheers!
