Im looking for some help I have recently picked up an 02 honda civic with 220k mile's for my 16 year old to drive, The car had been sitting for about a year. I did all the stranded maintenance item to get the car road worthy again. timing belt waterpump tires etc. The car was running great till the other day. When my daughter stopped at light it would not take off again. I went to get the car but when i got there the car ran fine and the trans pulled and shifted gears. So I attempted to drive it home half way home the trans quite pulling again. Once it cooled down it worked prefect again.Has any one had these issues before? Im pretty handy with a wrench and trouble shotting issues but this one got me a little stumped. Any input before I dive into pulling this trans out would be great. Also Ive checked the trans fluid its at operating level and a bright red color.

Sounds like it's due for a trans replacement or overhaul.

Right now my transmission D light is coming on and behaving just like this and also smoking after a while

i wouldnt even bother changing the fluid, i would just drive it till it dies at this point, just dont go too far from home to the point where you can not afford a tow truck
