Manual trans problem

I just purchased a 2004 civic with manual trans to commute to work. After driving it home the car won't go into 5th gear or reverse. I found the linkage is missing a cap or a piece that holds in the second linkage, to allow it to lift a pin to get into gear I guess is the the design. I zip tied the linkage to the side to hold the linkage in white shifting. It worked and the car goes into 5th and reverse. Can someone help me out with what the cap is called or the piece that is missing? I tried searching for a replacement but have no luck. TIA

Re: Manual trans problem

The cap missing from the small round tube is the breather vent cover, you can see it has an arrow on top of it in the 3rd pic. (item #1 in the catalog pic)

The rubber boot that covered the shift link isn't what holds the mechanism together, it's just a dust cover to keep it all somewhat clean.. Yes it's missing but the problem is deeper.

Zip-tied lever:
It looks like someone has already been inside there, as evidenced by the fresh clean gray RTV sealer.
Take a good close look at the parts diagram below, I have a feeling yours is missing items #18 and 21. In your pics I see an open hole, so I think they are missing.

Along with various other items missing.

Catalog link, but I just picked a random car to get a picture

Thanks you are the man! I was looking for a diagram and couldn't find one. You were correct, 21 was missing. I fabricated a stop and placed it in the hole. I tightened everything up and it works like a charm. Thanks again for your help.
