Replace tumblers in lock cylinders
Replace tumblers in lock cylinders
I've spent a good bit of time reading about similar issues to mine on this forum. I recently lost one of the keys to my 2001 Civic Ex and had the dealer cut a new one. The new key works perfectly in the passenger lock (hardly ever used), fairly well in the driver lock (somewhat used), not at all in the trunk lock (used often), and only in one direction in the ignition cylinder.
I want to replace the tumblers in the trunk and ignition cylinders with new ones, which I believe will fix the problem. I see Honda has the cylinder kit for $200+, but I only need a few tumblers. Is there a place where I can just get the tumblers I need? I plan on doing the work myself having watched several videos/how-to's.
Also, are there any other parts I should replacing (the cylinders themselves, etc)?

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

If your dealer has the tumbler kit, will they sell you individual tumbler wafers out of it?
ebay? Amazon?
