Your biggest problem with your 7th gen...

Bouncy, bouncy!

Most annoying problem for me has got to be the rear suspension. it doesn't really rear it's ugly head until speed bumps or bumpy pavement but I have hit my head a few times. there appears to be no "easy" fix. I just wish they tried just a tad harder with this car. 6th gen was such a dream.

How about engine stalling at random for no reason?

Is this a problem that is isolated to manual trannies? I have had no problems like this. Although, I have experienced some vibration at idle. Nothing horrible but my 6th gen was so quiet at idle I had times when I tried turning the engine on while the engine was already running.....not a good sound when you do that!

My '99 civic LX was sweet. Engine purred...seats were very comfortable...steering and handling great. No complaints whatsoever.

Compared to my 2k2 LX, that was a dream car.

Does anyone (especially 6' tall or more) feel as comfortable with the 7th gen. seating compared to the 6th Gen. Civic?

Is there ANYTHING about the 7th Gen. that outshines the 6th gen. ?

Bill

I'm 6'1" and I think it's fine. I have to drive with my legs bent even with the seat all the way back, but I have plenty of head room. My only problem is the gas mileage. I was expecting to average around 35 mpg. right now, I'm averaging 27.5.

Oh, my engine also makes a ticking sound, kinda like metal clicking against metal. It persists for about 5 minutes after I turn my car off. I have about 4,000 miles

Not really...we have members in here with auto having the same problem. In fact I asked that same question before and some replied they're having stalling problem with auto as well.

Also, besides bouncy rear ends and stalling, how about.....

Clutch pedal makes clicking sound on each travel?

A car that has absolutely no on-center feel from the steering? The straight line stability is so bad that I don't feel comfortable driving faster than 120km/h.

I know some of you love your car to death and have no problems with it whatsoever. And some also claim that when Honda sells that many Civics a year there's got to be a few bad samples. But I think either you have a low expectation for quality or you're not seeing the big picture. You see...when you're a big company making products for the public you just can't afford to say "Oh...we only screw up 1 in every 100 cars we made". That's what QC/QA is for. Just like Coke or Pepsi...can they claim "Oh...we only have metal or glass shavings in 1 of every 100 bottle of drinks we made"? See what my point is?

Cali, the service dept. told me not to worry about the sound that you mentioned. Explained that it is "normal" although not all cars make the sound (?).
Mentioned that it was the heat shield underneath the car cooling off.

I never experienced this with my previous 3 civics.

Are you a previous Civic owner?

I'm 6' 190lbs.
Headroom is fine.
My complaint concerning the seating is that the seat itself is not as comfortable at the hips as my 99 civic. The driver's seat belt latch kinda binds uncomfortably against my hip as well.
Also, the seat adjustment is not nearly as smooth as. The seat does not glide as smoothly during adjustment.
(Not to mention the buzz my right leg gets from the vibrating pedals (not noticed on any previous Civics)).

Why is the "thigh" support of the driver's seat much wider on the left side than on the right side?
Ergonomics?

I stand 6'2" 185 and I find I slouch a tad in my because of the car. I think it's because the moonroof cuts down on the interior space as well. Sometimes my hair hits the roof. Like I said on those speed bumps I launch into the ceiling!

I would also agree with most of what firefly said. My 6th generation was a dream. Honestly, I wish I had appreciated it more. I never thought this one would have so many annoyances in it's inherent design.

If I had my druthers I'd trade this in for a Protege5, but I'd take a loss right now if I did that. MAZDA seems to really be taking an interest in what the younger drivers of today are looking for. It seems like these CIVIC's have gotten very vanilla.

I'm 5'4 and i guess i am just the right size for a civic b/c the seat feels fine and everything is easy to reach. My 2K1 civ has 15,000 miles on it and no problems(but from what you are saying i think i better knock on wood).

I have spent time in 5th, 6th, and the 7th gen civic. I have found that all the seats in the civics stink. It's a relatively cheap car so you basically get chairs with padding. I am 5'9 and could use several more inches of legroom.

My clutch does make a little noise when engaging and disengaging it. An accord I had in the past used to do the same thing. The dealer said it was the return spring or something and said it just needed to be oiled. So, about once a year I would take it in and they would oil it for free and the sound would be gone. Not sure if this is the issue with the 7th gen vics though.

Anyhow, what bugs me is the sunroof rattle. I will take care of that myself when I find the time though.

Other than that, almost 5k and NO problems whatsoever.

mbow: sunroof rattle just needs some lubrication around the seal. If you push lightly on the moonroof when it's closed, you will hear that sound. Get the dealer to lube it and it will disappear.

beegreen, this is my first civic but I have a friend with a 98 and another with a 99 (I've driven both of them) and I like the feel of mine better. Also, I find that the seats keep me in place really well when I'm making sharp turns, especially by my shoulders. I just seem to slip right into the seats.

also, about my engine noise. It makes that sound while the engine is running, in addition to a few minutes after I turn it off, so I don't think it's from the engine cooling off. I think I'll take it in and give the dealership some hell. not only is school almost out, but I currently have no job, so I've got plenty of time on my hands. Plus, they have free donuts.

I think that the biggest problem with the civic is that people have had them long enough for the new to wear off and now the payments keep comeing .This pisses them off and they find fault with the car, you know sort of a head thing.........

I know I did not buy a Benz or a BMW.

Is it not fair to compare the 7th Gen with previous Gens?

Bitching for Bitching's sake is one thing...

Disappointed compared to the previous experience from the SAME make and model of a car is another.

Glad you are happy with yours.

I haven't had any real problems with my 2k1 EX. The only thing that used to get on my nerves was there wasn't an "on center" feeling when driving on the highway. It would go away when i accelerated, but came back as soon as i let off. I've either got used to it or it has gone away cause I haven't noticed when i have drivin it lately. So, other than that, no real problems.

oh yeah, as for the comparison to the 6th gen, I have owned 2 of them and i currently own a 96 Civic CX HB so the 2k1 is like a Benz compared to it. The seats in the 6th gens are OK, but are paper thin. The 7th gen seats are a little better, but I have wide shoulders so nothin really feels like it fits me just right.

I think it is fair to compare it to previous generations. Especially with this new weird suspension set up. It just isn't happening for me. Double wishbone was a nicer ride, just my opinion. This is my third CIVIC so i think I have some reason for comparing it.

My only problem with the civic is the HORRIBLE sound system. WTF? My wife had a galant that sounded BEAUTIFUL, then I bought the Civic and was ashamed to turn it up.

Are you for real?! Dude, that's the sound of hot metal cooling off and contracting. Every car does that.

OMG that was funny.

All in all the things I like about my 7th gen outweigh the things I don't. Here are the things that bug me though:

Dash rattles. I have 4,000 miles on my car and it has 2 rattles. WTF? My 6th gen didn't get rattles till 85,000 miles.

The rubber seal doesn't touch the outside of the window when you roll it down. Kinda makes it hard to get the water drops off when it's raining.

Rear deck rattles when I crank the sound system. If I get off my lazy *** I could probably fix this little annoyance myself.

All in all I like my 7th gen.

Iight, I have to say that right now my biggest problem is that it's just to slow. Yea Honda is the shhh.. but everyone else in my club has older cars that kick a**. A 91 sentra (DOHC), a 90 protege (SOHC) but still very fast, a 96 200sx (DOHC) fastest, and a 91 accord EX. All of their cars push 130 on the highway easy, but mine reaches 112 finally and the govenor kicks in cutting the power to wheels.

Also I am 6'4 and only 16 years old. I was 6'2 when I first got the car a year ago. It is getting close to the time when I get a larger car, unfortunately. I am looking into a RSX (either model), maybe a SI if its large enough, and whenever it comes out, the 2003 accord. I heard the V6 is going to be offered as a 5-speed and later on the coupe only will be offered with 6 gears.

The only thing that I dont like is the sound system, honda has always sucked at the sound. Even though i'll replace it in due time anyways it would be nice to have a good sounding sound system like they do in the other new cars

The sound you are hearing is the exhaust cooling down after it gets hot. It is expecially comon in honda's because of the heat sheild on the exhaust manifold on the front of engine. hope this helps

Of course I wish it was a bit faster, but the only thing that I really don't like about my civ is the lean in corners. I feel like I'm going to slide into the passenger seat. It really leans like a mf. Other than that, I don't have any real complaints.
