2004 Civic LX speedometer not working....again
125K on my car when speedo stopped working. Opted to get it repaired locally back in Sep 2016 vs buy new or buy used through salvage yard or eBay. Briefly stopped yesterday but working today. So, have started to look on eBay for a replacement instrument cluster in the event it goes bad and the guy won't repair it for free.
The cluster part #(from paper strip on bottom of cluster) is 78100-S5A-A182-M2. I have an AT with no side air bags, blue neon ring around the gauges. When trolling through eBay I have yet to find a perfect match of this number. When I =find one that I think fits my car the first part matches 78100-S5A but then I find A150 or A782, etc and not A182. Is it important to find a perfect match? The ads say they should fit my car but to check the part # to make sure. Just need to know if I need a perfect match and if they don't match perfectly will they still work? Thanks for any help.

There's a whole bunch of different cluster part numbers in a Honda parts catalog.....
Use one of the many online Honda dealer parts catalogs, enter your VIN instead of manually picking out your car, the system should narrow down the choices according to your VIN.
You can opt to change to a different cluster too, some people swap to get a different color, or whatever. Search here for 'cluster swap' or some such, there should be plenty of reading material.
There is a big wiring difference between early and late versions, and if your airbag systems don't match right I think it can cause SRS fault codes. The threads covering this should be found in a search here too.
A used cluster will show the odometer reading of the car it came out of so document all of the numbers and keep them in the car for future reference (helps when you sell the car and for service records), unless you want to send it out to be changed to match your current mileage.
Keep in mind, a used cluster will be just as old as the one you have now, so it could also end up with similar issues sooner or later.
