2001 civic thermostat temperature

Hey there, what is the correct temperature rating for a 2001 honda civic ex?? I am replacing mine but do not want to get one too far away from stock, Autozone selling for 170 degrees but is that too low? Thanks for your quick answer to this simple minded question lol

Re: 2001 civic thermostat temperature

If you want to be assured of OE quality, get an OE thermostat. It should come with the gasket.
I don't have one here to check, but I seem to remember seeing 86* or 88*C stamped on one.

A stat rated at only 170 might cause a P0128 fault code.

170F (77C) confirmed with Autozone part search.
FailSafe (no gasket) brand $19
I believe OEM Honda comes with new gasket but cost more like $30

Re: 2001 civic thermostat temperature

Not to sound like a Honda lover here or anything but if that aftermarket thermostat fails your car overheats and costs you a headgasket job to the tune of $1200 have you really saved $10? If it fails in 3 years and have to replace it again have you saved $10? My OEM Tstat is 17 years old now and still working fine.

just sayin
