noisy backing plate - what do you 'fix'?

Hi all
My daughter's '05 makes a clicking sound that's not C.V. joint related. My mechanic (wonderful guy) always gives me freebies and free troubleshooting.

He knows I've always done my own basic brakes, pads, rotors etc... so he said the sound is 'just a noisy backing plate'. To avoid looking stupid, I thanked him and figured I'd search on youtube. No luck.

What does one do if you have a backing plate making noise? Replace it?

Push it away from the rotor, if that's what is really causing the noise.
Usually it makes a scraping noise, sometimes prevalent during a turn to one side or the other.

Lugnuts all tight?

I'll be changing pads, rotors and shoes this weekend, along with a full brake line flush... I'll also be mindful of clearance so with properly torqued-down lugnuts, I'll see if the sound persists.

But it's not a rubbing sound... it's more of a clicking (not a CV click)

Merci monsieur
