2005 Manual Transmission Help Needed Please!!!

Hello All,

I am a new member and seeking some advice here. I have a 2005 Honda Civic EX with 88k miles. It has a manual 5-speed transmission, and yesterday I lost all gears and all gates. It needs a clutch, but was still very drivable. The only other symptom I could site is, over the last few weeks, I was getting some resistance going into and coming out of 5 and Reverse.

I pulled out of a parking lot, pulled the car out of 3 and into neutral, and had nothing (again, not just a loss go gears, but gates as well). Once I got it home, I checked the linkage, and it appears that everything leading up to the transmission is functioning correctly (best I can tell). At the transmission, I can see the linkage actuate left and right for each gear, and pull upwards every two gears. I could not identify anything externally that looked off.

My ultimate question is, is there a common culprit I should be looking for here? Any advice? Is it worth it to go into the transmission and repair only the broken part, or should I just go ahead and overhaul it/replace with a remanufactured transmission. Any, and all, advice is greatly appreciated!

(note: I have a strong mechanical aptitude, and could likely handle rebuilding a manual tranny, although I would not touch an auto. However, I would love some feedback on what I may be looking at that's broken before getting into this. Again, thanks for any help!)

Patrick

unless you have alot of experience and can rebuild the thing yourself, i would swap it with a rebuilt/reman tranny.....with a warranty!

I kinda wonder if it had been really low on trans fluid for a while, like a leak that was not caught and fixed in time.
