No crank/starter in cool weather
2001 Civic LX 4dr KA5MT
43 deg F this morning. I depress clutch pedal, insert key and gently turn to position III to crank the engine and nothing. No click, no noise from the starter.
Luckily I have a steep driveway. I let her roll down driveway and pop the clutch, she starts right up.
I take to local Autozone (I have a duralast battery bought by previous owner). Battery and charging system test good.
Car cranks and starts right up for the rest of the day.
If I don't depress the clutch and turn key, nothing happens. This is exactly what I experienced this morning.
1. Anything I should check if this happens again? Relay under dash?
2. There are two switches on my clutch pedal. One is a pedal position switch and the other is the interlock switch. I'm not sure what the pedal position switch is used for, but the interlock is the one that keeps it power from the starter until the clutch pedal is pressed?
If so, interlock switch seems the likely place to start checking if this happens again. When pedal is depressed the switch is closed and there is continuity between pins 1 & 2. I went to Majestic Honda parts search. What System/component is the switch shown under? I was going to check the price in case I need one.
3. Anybody had similar problem? Cooler weather have anything to do with it?

Re: No crank/starter in cool weather
It could be a range of issues. I wouldn't fire the parts cannon at it just yet. Definitely monitor the situation and note if it happens again.
I think the position sensor is the thing that cuts off your cruise control when you depress the clutch so the RPMs don't shoot through the speedo. Your theory on the interlock sounds right.
Oh man, I've looked all over and I can't find it!
My car sometimes takes another crank or two to start when it's cold, but not that...

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Re: No crank/starter in cool weather
I'd attach a test light to the small wire terminal on the starter and see if it does or doesn't get powered up when it won't crank.
Mount test light bulb on the dash or windshield where you can see it.
