How to replace cat on 2001 civic EX
How to replace cat on 2001 civic EX
Anyone know of a video showing how to replace the cat and O2 sensors on an 01 civic EX?
Apparently the cat is welded to the down pipe on the EX. Dealer prices to do the job are incredible.
Thanks.

Nah, I couldn't find one. Why do you need to change it out, anyway?
Replacing it with another OEM part shouldn't be too big of a deal, just unplug the sensor, unbolt the thing, and reverse those steps for the new one.

It not really welded onto the down pipe, its one whole piece.

You can buy a cat like this

but your cat will have to be cut out of your down pipe and the new welded in or have a new down pipe made up to fit the cat.
It is not difficult to change out (if you buy one with the down pipe built in). Like said, just unbolt and re bolt.

It's throwing a code for it and won't pass inspection with it. It'll clear intermittently, but after 100 miles will come back on.
Thanks for your help.

Ah, ok. I can get a honda cat for something over $600, but I don't know if it comes with a down pipe. Are the non-honda parts reliable?
Thanks!

Re: How to replace cat on 2001 civic EX
Yes the Honda one will come with the down pipe, Its considered part of the cat.

I don't have any personal experience with aftermarket cats but usually they are cheaper because they use cheaper metals so they will break down sooner over time. How long, Idk? Benefit of buying OE is that it is direct fit so you can save money from having a shop do it but for the price of an OE cat you could pay a shop to do it twice with a cheaper cat.
