Failed Auto 2001 Civic Transmission

Well guys I am stumped, I have a 01 civic EX with a little over 165,000 miles on the original transmission that just bit the dust a few days ago. It had been whining for about a month or so getting progressively worse and also slipping more and more until it just gave out. So I have a friend who recommended getting a used JDM transmission because they are generally cheaper and with less miles then what you will find in a junk yard or at a used parts place around where I live. So I was looking online getting ready to order one and I noticed a warning about making sure that you’re civic was built in North America and not in Canada or it will throw a code and not function properly. I go out to check and find that my vin says my car was built in Canada and not north America... Now I am not sure what I should do? Does anybody know what auto transmission would be compatible with my civic? Or would I be ok using a JDM one? Getting a rebuilt one is kind of out of the question, I was quoted around 2500! what is the value of the car…. Any help would be appreciated!

I don't really know anything about this but it looks to me like the transmissions are the same in the NA built models but different from the Japanese built models which as best I can tell all seem to use the SLXA transmission. The problem switching between the two might be something like this: https://www.civicforums.com/forums/3...bmxa-swap.html

1HG is built in US, 2HG is Canada and JHM is Japan.

EX - vin - engine number - transmission number

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

If the car can't be driven, it's only worth whatever scrap value is when someone drags it across the scales.

If you fix the trans problem (no matter what the cost), THEN the car would be worth 2500 again.
I think 2500 value might be a little conservative though.
