Strange Overheat Problem

I have a 2002 Civic.

Anyway, my car gets hot getting off the freeway. Sometimes, it will be a mile or two after getting off, sometimes much sooner. However, I have been driving this on the streets because of the overheat issue, and it seems that if I drive at 45 mph or below, I can drive and drive for miles with no problems at all as long as I am not on the freeway. My regular mechanic can't figure out the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Strange Overheat Problem

That doesn't sound good. That will cost what? $1500 to get fixed

Anyway, do you think I should be safe to drive if I continue to not use the freeway and just use streets since my car only seems to overheat after getting off the freeway?

Figure out the true cause of the overheat before you go believing me....

Step #1: Open the radiator cap and see how low the antifreeze is inside. Refill.
Step #2: Figure out where the missing antifreeze went. Did it go into the reservoir bottle? Is the bottle way overfilled and/or liquid spewed out from it?

And read and follow the stuff in the linked thread.

do you think I should be safe
Safe? YOU probably won't die from it, but if you let an engine overheat it can cost you a ton of money.
