I need some advice about my transmission
I need some advice about my transmission
I have a 2001 Civic EX that last year I just spent $1000 have the head gasket, timing belt and water pump replaced. A couple days ago I was driving and noticed smoke coming from somewhere when i was close to home. The next day I go to drive it and the rpms just didnt seem right. I was told to put it in drive and give it throttle and I did, the rpms were steady with the throttle around 2.5k.
I call a local import salvage yard today and he tells me he doesnt have any transmissions but can get one for 1250..GTFO. He said they cant be rebuilt because they are too much of a headache. I think this is just bs but I dont know so I thought I would ask. I do not want to dump another $1000 in this car.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

It's barely a decent paperweight without a trans. Our local yards won't give squat unless it drives in under its own power.
It's probably worth decent money as a used car if it has a good transmission in it.

Where I work, we replace with remanufactured units that have a decent, nationwide warranty.
