Honda Civic 2001 halts while driving

Hi,

I have a Honda Civic 2001 LX with about 132k miles on it. Yesterday, driving for about 30+ minutes on a major road with the AC unit ON then suddenly, the car did not want to accelerate and speed up. The steering wheel, gas and brakes were not functioning at this time and was able to pull on side of road safely.

Opened the hood and no smoke and no leaks.
Temperature on the gauge was about normal and middle.
Car would not come back on - called towing company just in case.
After an hour or so later, car started up again - "check engine" light on.
I was able to drive it home last night and this morning.

Could this problem be with the "fuel pump"?

Recently, when I drive the car for about 30+ minutes and get gas - restarting the car is taking like 3 seconds more and holding the switch.

I will go to Autozone or AdvanceAutoParts and see if they have the device to check the readings on my Civic.

Any help and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

JD

Report back here with the actual code numbers.

Sorry, didn't have the codes - the night it stalled, the radio jammed and I had to unplug the battery power. I did not know once the battery was unplug, it will clear the settings.

I went to a repair shop today and could not retrieve any readings since battery was disconnected.

I notified them that when the car stalled, the "manifold" (picture) was "orange" and "hot".
Should this manifold turn "orange"? It's like placing a metal in a flaming fire in which you can bend it to any shape. I have never seen do this before.

Question is:
What would cause this manifold to turn "orange" on "hot"?
Relay? Thermostat? Sensor?

They were charging about $2k with parts and labors.

By fixing this, will other issues arise since it overheated?

I appreciate your help and assistance.

Thanks,

JD

What would cause this manifold to turn "orange" on "hot"?
A catalytic converter will overheat when sufficient raw fuel enters. Could be misfire, could be running far too rich, could be many causes.
Could be what I mention at the bottom of this post.

The cat may or may not have suffered damage. If it is damaged, there will either be a serious performance problem or a cat code P0420.

They were charging about $2k with parts and labors.
For what?

What do they want to replace for $2000???????
Why?
I don't know about you, but there had better be a damn good reason if someone wants to spend MY money like that.

Does the car run badly? No power?

I'll guess they want to replace the cat for that price, that's about the 3rd most expensive thing in the car.
A damaged cat should never be replaced until after the root cause of the failure is known and corrected, if possible. A brand new cat can be ruined in a matter of only minutes if the original problem is not fixed.

$2000 is awful steep for not even solving the original problem. Or maybe this price covers that too, you aren't clear on this.

I wouldn't replace the cat unless there is a proven problem with it now.

could not retrieve any readings since battery was disconnected.
There went any evidence.

You already said it has not reset any codes, but how much has it been driven since the "event" in question?

suddenly, the car did not want to accelerate and speed up. The steering wheel, gas and brakes were not functioning at this time
The engine died and wouldn't restart right away. Why? (Isn't this your main concern?)

By fixing this, will other issues arise since it overheated?
Fixing what?
You didn't overheat the engine, just the cat.

and get gas - restarting the car is taking like 3 seconds more and holding the switch.
Test the PCS (purge control solenoid) for being stuck open.
