P0171 Code- Keeps Popping up
P0171 Code- Keeps Popping up
Hello, I have a Honda civic lx and a P0171 code keeps popping out, my mechanic has cleaned every sensor, throttle, replaced fuel filters/spar plugs and wirings, also replaced O2 sensors. I still smell gas though the A/C and the code is still popping up.
What can i do now?
I recently replaced the exhaust manifold due to the previous one being cracked

Re: P0171 Code- Keeps Popping up
The new exhaust manifold could not be sealed.
Were the o2 sensors replaced with OEM sensors? Could be the wrong one or a crappy one!
Maybe get another mechanic to look at it. Preferably one that knows Hondas.

What's the Freeze Frame data that goes along with the P0171 code?
Re: P0171 Code- Keeps Popping up
He keeps doing a trial and error but i just got my car back yesterday and within twenty miles or so i recieved the engine light, soon after my RPM's dropped and gas fumes were leaking thru my a/c. I am still getting delayed speed as soon as i leave my house. He is letting a "Honda Specialist" look at it, but this last time he said everything was good. Im not sure about the readings but it says low levels in bank one. I erase the code and it acts normal for a while, but once the check engine light comes on, everything starts to act up.
I just dont know what to do anymore

What i keep thinking could t be this exhaust manifold because he went to a junkyard and bought one for my model and it didnt fit, so went back and got it off a ther honda civic and it wasnt quite a perfect fit so they had to make adjustments, ever since then my gas mileage has dropped and all these problems have arose

I now assume the "gas" you smell is exhaust and not fuel.
If there are exhaust leaks around the exhaust manifold, then yes it can cause mileage to drop off as it creates a false lean condition as seen by the O2 sensor. How much of a mileage drop I don't know.
If there is any doubt, try putting the original parts back on and see what happens.

What kind of a moron uses an exhaust manifold not meant for that specific engine? Seriously calling this guy mentally handicapped would be an insult to the mentally handicapped. There's a specific gasket that works with a specific manifold for a specific engine. If one of those doesn't match the others there will be problems. I mean you might be able to swap out the exhausts between ex and lx but idk what would all be involved there - entire thing pretty much I think. I don't know why you are still paying this guy to do work and even if he's doing it for free why you're still there because he knows less than an artist trying to fix an jet engine.
The amount of stupidity covered here amazes me (talking about your "mechanic"). "Fixes" issue with incorrect parts. Modifies a part from a junkyard carrying pressurized gasses and expects it not to leak. Sees performance issues and mpg drop after "fix." Throws OTHER random parts at it in hopes it will fix itself. Says everything's good and you trust him implying everything isn't supposed to be good the first time he fixes it. I wouldn't even trust this guy to fill my tank with gas.
And I would hope to never hear about a "mechanic" using trial and error ever again rather than actually diagnosing a problem.
STOP GOING TO THIS HOLE IN THE WALL SHOP.

Lol. I try not to. I've had a small number of bad mechanics-mostly ones that did something poorly. Since then I've found 2 shops near my hometown and 1 shop near my college town that I trust to do good work if I ever have something I need a shop to do.
