2005 Alt bolt removal

The top bolt on alternator will not clear the alternator sleeve when attempting to remove it. I have removed all reservoirs, but the bolt still won't clear. I don't understand this. Has anyone hand this problem?

If it's the pivot bolt I'm thinking of, it will just slide to the right. It's enough to remove the alternator. Normal for 01-05 civics.

It should be enough to clear it, but it still needs about 1/8" before it will clear. The head of the bolt hits the fender wall. This is a very weird senerio. I don't get it.

Did you remove the power steering reservoir bracket? I've even had it hard at times to remove because of that sleeve. You just have to wiggle it until it frees itself unless you can physically feel it hanging up on the bolt if it's pulled all the way to the right side. I had to tap that bushing a couple times as well to reinstall it. It's a tight fit if it's the first time you're removing it. Maybe try wedging a large flat head screwdriver between the bracket and the alt. to remove it.

Re: 2005 Alt bolt removal

I'd yank the engine mount apart and raise the engine (use a floor jack) until the pivot bolt clears enough to get the alt off.

This is how I do it when I do a timing belt job.

Re: 2005 Alt bolt removal

You don't need to fully remove the bolt to remove the alternator... The bolt actually stays up against the inner fender and you remove the alternator, put the new one in, and slide the bolt back into position. I know this has kind of been addressed I'm just not fully sure if you understood. If it's not clearing the 1/8 of an inch then you need to do what ezone said.

Re: 2005 Alt bolt removal

why do you need to remove the bolt?

what are you trying to accomplish here?

if you are trying to remove the alternator, the bolt does not need to be removed completely, just slide it all the way till it hits the fender (as was previously stated),

i removed my alt this way, i dont see any reason why yours should be any different, unless your fender is bent in toward the bolt
