Inaccurate Fuel Gauge
Has anyone noticed the fuel gauge in our civics is not too accurate? Mine skips from full to half in no time at all! Also, I can stay on empty for literally 25 miles! Is there something wrong with my gauge? Has anyone else noticed this?

Rep Power: 0 if you take it in to get fixed, they replace the whole guage cluster, which will reset your miles to zero (sounds good but its not, it can lower the value of the car, and the old mileage will be recorded)

Rep Power: 0 Yep, I just bought my car a few days ago, and I've noticed the same thing...
Oh well, I actually watch mileage personally. Also, it sure is a benefit to have a dummy light (gas light). Comes on when you have about 2 - 2.5 gallons left. At least in my car it does.

Rep Power: 0 i have that problem too.....just couple days ago....i start up my car and realized that the Fuel Gauge Light had came on...so i thought, "Oops time to get gas!" then after driving for 1.5 miles...the light went off and the gas meter jump a inch upward...i was like "WTF?"...anyways..got get that fix soon[IMG]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/IMG]

Rep Power: 0 my 02 has been weird lately, but mostly with the gas light. it used to come on when i had used around 10.5 gallons, but then it started coming on when i had used around 9 gallons a couple times lately, but then it hadnt even come on yet and it took 10.7 gallons or so.

Rep Power: 368 yeah. I tried one dealer and they're like "Thats a feature, the first time it hits the light its a warning that you have low gas... then it goes back up..." bullshit. I dont want any warning, 1 warning is enough. if you're gonna have 2 warning light at two different time, then tell me its different... when he told me that, I was like, wtf? okay er. fine.
but now that I think about it, er.. bullshit. the manual says nothing about that. its really a hassle, I've stalled my car 2 or 3 times cuz I thought I had enough gas but I dont. I'm going to take it to the dealer I bought my car from, I duno what'll happen though.

Rep Power: 0 as far as the light going on and then off again, it happened to me once too, but think about this. how was your car sitting when you shut it off? if it was not level, that may be the reason. on my 86 grand am, however, now that was annoying, once u hit a bout 1/3 of a tank left, any turn and the guage was movin'. i think that the pick-up was in a bad place though, b/c when i had a just under a half tank or so, and i floored it, the gass went to the back of the tank, fuel pressure went down, and it bucked liked a chick w/ a sreaming orgasm. that was a pain in theass, o well, no probs w/ my 01

Rep Power: 0 I have heard about the gauge issues but hadn't experienced anything until today. I was on my way to pick up my wife and daughter from a friend's house when I noticed the light came on and the needle was sitting on that last red line. I had to go about 15 miles or so and decided to wait to fillup on the way back. Well, on the way back the light goes off and the needle jumps up saying I have a 1/4 tank of gas! So, my daughter takes a nap and we drive around looking at some houses and the needle still says 1/4 tank. We head for the house and I decide to fillup so I don't have to in the morning. I pumped 12 gallons of 93 octane into my **** car! I thought the darn thing only held 11.2! I had to be running on fumes and about to be left stranded. Meanwhile, my gauge says I have fricckken 1/4 tank of gas!!!!!

Mine simply goes up and down + or - .1" . Sometimes when i use the air conditioner, the level moves up! [IMG]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/IMG] lol, weird.

Rep Power: 0 I didn't experience this until the AZ meet but I went to go see star wars episode 2 on the digital screen and it was awesome but I come out start my car start driving and its lugging like a mother I had the A/C on it but it was way worse. So I look the fuel light is on and I had I swear a 1/4 tank when I shut it off. So I try to find a station and can't I was freaking out this thing is pegged on E and its driving like crap. So I finally find a station and it just happens to be a chevron 
so I fill it up and it only took 11.6 gallons of 91 octane 1.57 a gallon thats the on going rate out here for the good stuff. So yeah that was my first experience with the gas gauge but didn't have to walk and still made it too the Meet but I was freaking out that I would have to leave my ride alone and get some gas. Uggg

Rep Power: 0 I talked to the service manager at my dealership and he acted like he had never heard of 01 Civic fuel gauge problems. I worked it out with him to have a gauge cluster installed with the correct mileage - had to estimate the mileage I would put on in a week. He said the company that does it had to run the new cluster on a machine to add miles. Arrived at the dealership with about 5 miles left so I drove around a little so my odometer would have the exact same mileage as the new odometer. They installed the new cluster and the fuel gauge acts just the same as it did before!

Rep Power: 0 the truth is, that part of our cars is probably just poorly designed, but if we complain enough, maybe someone will do something about it at honda... i have learned the path of my wayward gauge and estimate... i use "trip A" and reset to zero every time i fill up and usually get between 320 and 350 miles, which isn't that great, but at least i know when to get gas [IMG]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/IMG]

Rep Power: 0 I just got my 02 Civic Coupe less than a week ago, and this is the first thing I noticed... Every time I park the car for a prolonged period of time [3+hrs], the needle on fuel gauge seem to drop anywhere from 1 measure to 2...
My pops says it's probably the sensor inside the tank moving around, but I'm skeptical, I even check the bottom of the car to see it anything was leaking. T.T
I'm on my second tank of gas, and I seem to be doing just over 400km per... is this on par?

Rep Power: 0 the guage has a design flaw.
as for 400km per tank, do a search you will find that the range varies a lot in these cars, i get about the same (250 miles per tank) with an intake 17" rims and a thule up top.
