A/T slipping
A/T slipping
New here and have read alot of posts on the a/t that is in the 2001 civic.
We have 2 civics in our livery of hondas. a 97 and 01. The 01 is the one that concerns me. It started slipping between 1st and 2nd so I did a 3 time drain and fill with honda a/t fluid. Now it only does it when it is cold. Is there in additive that can be used to prolong the life of it or is it just a slow death. It has 113000 miles on it. The 97 slips somewhat. 205000 miles on it. Any information will help. Thanks.

Re: A/T slipping
IMO it's a slow death, but it could take years. I have an 02 ex a/t with only 87k and it doesn't slip, but sometimes makes a noise when the torque converter locks up in low speeds/gears. I change my fluid once a year now to try and prolong the life.

tallgood, you are probably going to hear the same thing over and over again. Damage is likely done and a slow death is in your future.
gearbox has been babying a slipping AT for years/thousands of miles. I'm going on 2+ years and ~18k. Others will have similar stories.
Just take it easy when it is cold, no hard acceleration or the ilk until it warms up. Put a drain and fill on the annual maintenance and cross your fingers.
