frustrated with my new LX-G Civic 2005, Please help
hi guys,
I live in Quebec, Canada. Last month I decided to buy a civic, and after a few weeks of research finally I ended up with a fully equipped LX-G ,2005... but since then I 've had some problems, I wish I hadn't buy this one,
please help me solve these issues....
1- one main reason for choosing Honda civic was low gas consumption, but mine eats gas badly... terrible 24mpg,... yes! the engine light went on last week, the mechanic told me to change the o2 sensor, but does it really make that difference? right now he reset the engine light but it might come back again, as he said...you know, the engine light blinks a few times before starting the car (readiness codes not set, as described in the manual)
2-rear brakes make noise when I push the pedal... the mechanic told me if drums be re-surfaced, it would fix the problem. but it didnt!!! it got worse!!!
3-one morning after a heavy rain I started the car and wanted to move but the tires were blocked! I had to put the wheels on the jack one by one , and turn them, the issue was solved, but WHY? I had no idea.... was it because of the brakes or?! %$#
4- the trunk door lever didn't work... this one I solved using the threads in this forum, thanks a lot!
I have an appointment with the mechanic,soon... any advise is much welcome.....

p.s.
I have read lots of threads on O2 sensor and rear brakes, but I got more and more confused!

check for the gas and oil additives (LC20 and FP) you will find tons of threads on this forum. check for "MPG contest" thread to get a rough idea how much MPG others getting.
regarding the light, O2 sensors alone might not solve your problem, before he reset the light, did he tell you what codes came on the OBD reader? that would have helped more.
my check engine light came on few weeks back with code P0420, i reset the same and it came back. after that it turned out to be a spark plug problem. i fixed the plugs and the light is not back as of now.

Thanks for your comments, yogeshsr!
Actually I changed the O2 sensor, and the problem solved( at least for the last few weeks the light didn't come on!). about the rear drums, I agree with you that the drum should be changed, but for the moment I don't care about the sound as long as the brake system makes its job to stop the car!
and the blockage of the rear brakes didn't happen again, either(hopefully!!!)
Anyway, I appreciate your help, and I am thinking of a new mechanic in my area who does his job better; actually after these problems, I changed my mechanic once, but the second one was even worse! :X The good news is that my car is now operating welll: after changing the O2 sensor(400$) and K&N air intake filter (free, under lifetime guaranty)
p.s. I agree that doing all of my maintenance work myself is a the best way, but I am not sure if I could
