Transmission rebuild

Hi everyone! I am new to this forum and I just want to seek some advise from fellow civic owners. I have a 2001 Honda Civic automatic with 78,000 miles on it. The transmission slips when engine is warm so I brought it to my local AAMCO for diagnostics. I didn't go with buying a used transmission from the salvage yards because I was afraid I might be encountering the same problem again after their 6 months warranty expires notwithstanding the cost of labor which is really expensive. Anyway, AAMCO took the transmission apart and after checking it they gave me an out-the-door price of $2380 for parts and labor with 1 yr (12,000 miles) warranty. Should I decide to get the 3 yr (36,000 miles) warranty, it will cost me $2730. However, they are offering a lifetime warranty for parts and labor for a total expense of $3,000 out the door. Considering the year and the mileage of my car, which is the best option to get? Please advise. Thank you so much sirs/maams.

Re: Transmission rebuild

You need a second or third opinion. Check local shops, use AAMCO as a last resort. There are other shops that well offer similar warranties, for less.

Re: Transmission rebuild

why rebuild when it only slips? you might get many more miles out of it until something happens. the "fixed" trans may fail even before the original. you need to find a reputable shop that does good work and have them use a quality kit that replaces the defective parts with upgraded versions. otherwise it will just die again. never swap in a salvage trans because they all have the same problems.
