2002 Honda civic transmission replacement. NEED INFO!
I need to swap in a new automatic tranny for my 2002 Honda Civic EX and was wondering if swaping in a later year transmission might help me avoid another quick failer. I have heard of other people putting in a 2005 tranny and i was wondering if that would be an exact fit for my 2002. Thanks

A 2001 to 2005 EX trans should be. You should have a BMXA like me I think. That one should be too. The LX trans will work, but they have different gear ratios and such. The EX trans is actually closer ratio and lower geared than the LXs. Do what you want, but the only way I would put the work in a swap is with a Reman at the least. You are taken a gamble putting a used tranny in. I would either build yours or put a reman in. Other trannies, maybe so, NOT THESE.

I was a mechanic, I rebuilt my own myself while I still had multiple vehicles to drive. I only had less than 500 bucks in mine, new convertor and internals. That was almost a year ago, and 24000 miles ago, still works fine. They can be rebuilt. I would have serious trust issues letting the minimum wage guy at the local tranny shop do it though. A good experienced tech could do it, but for his labor and parts, which won't be cheap, you could buy a reman.... I had mine tore down, it was hands down one of the most intricate, involved transmissions I have had apart. Even the second time around you aren't going to rebuild this one in 4 or 5 hours. As a matter of fact, may take that long just to get it out and the case split....
