Civic Si-R for sale. Any advice?
Civic Si-R for sale. Any advice?
Hello everyone. This is my first post here ( and won't be my last ) and I am currently in the market for a 2002-2004 civic. I came across this interesting ad:
http://www.nlclassifieds.com/classif...s/Honda/651667
For those of you who are link weary:
I also emailed him yesterday and:
1. Wiring problem with injector malfunction
2. Oxygen sensor ( don't know which one) (~$300 @ dealership)
3. DRL relay malfunction (~ $130.00 @ dealership)
4. Driver side belt buckle SRS code ( I found the wiring schematic on a sticky)
5. Rear wiper arm broken
6. A/C not working ( No problems personally)
7. Front bumper & driver side skirt is toast.
Is there anything else I should know before I go look at her tomorrow night? I have read through alot of the stickies on the SRS code and some injector problems, but overall this seems like a steal of a deal.
If you could help me out it would be greatly appreciated!

For sale 2003 Civic SiR 2.0L, hatch back, 5spd manual trans., 162xxx Km's. Car runs/drives and body is solid, but needs mechanical work. There are a number of reapairs needed, most notable seems to be an electronics problem. Great car for tuner or for someone with knowledge to repair on their own. Asking $3200 o.n.o.

I would definitely do a leak down and compression test, as well as pulling the codes and confirming them yourself.
Re: Civic Si-R for sale. Any advice?
Much appreciated. I have a diagnostic kit to pull the codes myself which will save a ton of trouble.
Thanks for a heads up on the leak down. I know of the compression test as I am a Subaru fan (Head Gasket Grenade). Hopefully the seller will pay or cover the costs of the test.

If you know what you are doing, then its a steal. A/C is probably an electrical problem in the fuse box (mine was, and i've seen other 7th gens same problem). I dont remember exactly what it was, my uncle found it and fixed it. I've also yet to see a Si with a working rear wiper haha. Everything else seems not too much to worry about, just the injector malfunction, so if you got that, you're set!
Re: Civic Si-R for sale. Any advice?
I picked her up yesterday and had some fun before I got down to business today!
I repaired the driver side skirt with a fibreglass kit and J.B. Weld today and also checked the SRS codes using the bypass method. I got the SRS to flash twice but the light came back on. We will have to see what happens when I get her inspected.
The DRL light was just a wore out and it just needs a new Relay, so that made it a super quick and cheap fix. Both bulbs, fuses and the board all checked out as well.
I pulled the codes with my own diagnostic kit and it came up with a p0141 Secondary O2 sensor malfunction. That looks like about the only problem that came up. Its a holiday here today so I will be picking it up tomorrow to pop it in.
As far as what I and my uncle can diagnose, there are no problems with the fuel injectors. I think the previous owner was just super paranoid. Either way I'm pretty sure I got a really good deal!
Lets all join hands and pray that an airbag isn't blown...
Thanks for all the advice! I'm going to have her painted the same color in a couple weeks so I will post some pictures down the road! (Need to find a Red-Badge for the grill before!)
