Rear end crazyness, Speed Bumps
This topic has come up before, but it is really starting to irritate me. Having your rear end bounce all to hell every time you go over a speed bump(at less than 5mph), is freaking crazy. Why put groceries, stereo equipment, or anything fragile in the back knowing that it can get shattered when going over a freaking speed bump.
They apparently fixed the problem in the 02, and I want to know EXACTLY what they did. Here is the thing.....if it does that on a speed bump, what kind of safety hazard is it when on the highway, cornering ect ect ect.
Those of you who have aftermarket springs.....did putting these on resolve the problem? Has anybody talked to the honda dealer about this, and are they able to repair the problem by adding 02 suspension parts to the 01?

If had driven over a speed bump in my road test of this thing...between the strut knocking up front and huge bounce in the back...I never would've put the money down for this car.
For now, I drive around speed bumps if possible.

When I first got my car I felt like the back bucked like a horse when going over speed bumps. I have had the car for about 3 months now and it has definately softened up a little bit. I don't have any problems with any strut noises.

Yep the tail is way too happy..........
Apparently the RSX sorta has the same problem.
I think it's the double wish bone in the rear, it's krap. Everyone talked about how the MacPharison in the fronts were bad, but its the rear that sucks.
And it bounces BAD. Worst is taking corners, and there is a pot hole....... feels like I'm gonna lose it, even at low speeds. When it rains, well... I don't even want to talk about it.

I thought it was just me that had this problem or something. My subs bounce all over the place when I hit a bump, I hate it, hopefully next year it will be better when I do some suspension mods.
Same problem here I hate speed bumps with this new car, even my old 88 civic took bumps better than this car. Yeah don't put anything valueable in the back who knows how many pieces you may find it in. But yeah even going slow as hell over those bumps at a angle I am like WAMM.
It sucks

Some people have just replaced the shocks with Koni's (and kept the stock springs) and said that it gets rid of the bounciness. I think the main problem of the bounciness is more with the shocks and less with the springs.

I think it's mainly the fault of the springs. I remember someone mentioning that the spring rates are huge. Maybe they're not progressive or something? Who the hell knows? I just hope that I can get rid of this problem with new struts and coilovers or maybe a full coilover.

i dunno guys i dont really experience what u guys are, i have an 01 ex coupe, and its fine, the only thing i can gripe about is hitting a rut under moderate or higher cornering. ive recently installed 215/45-17 Kumho Ecsta Supra 712s and after hearing that a lower profile tire will give a harsher ride, i was expecting it to be fairly rough, but to my surprise it rides the same, theres no noticeable difference. just my two cents.
I got my 02 EX a week ago and i also noticed the rear end bounces when i go over speed bumps, but i don't thinks it's anything too bad. I just go over bumps slower than i normaly would
