"Jumping" gear-2001 automatic.
I have 2001 Civic, automatic. I am no car expert so I will explain this best I can, and if you post a reply please just talk to me like I have no idea, cause I don't - I know the basics of a car, but I am no mechanic by any stretch of the means. Basically, my issue is when my car goes into the 2nd initial gear, my engine revs up, and then the car "jumps" into the next gear, the succeeding gears after that are fine. I took the car to a parts store and they connected their computer to it, (the check engine light is on) but they told me that nothing came up. So, can anyone help me out?- and save me money.

Re: "Jumping" gear-2001 automatic.
its very common problem on 01-05 auto trans. its actually a defect in the clutch pack due to rapid wearing of the friction material. unfortunately, it will only get worse until the car no longer drives. what you describe is called gear slip and basically this happens because the trans does not upshift when it should and instead revs up as in neutral before grabbing the next gear. does it only happen when cold? or after everything warms up. start saving for a new trans right now. it may die in a week or you may get couple yrs out of it. hard to say for sure.
