Changed my transmission fluid today
Changed my transmission fluid today
Hey guys! I am new to the forum and thought I should introduce myself a little first off. I am 47 years old and have a 22 year old son who is a United States Marine on his second enlistment. I have owned a 1981 Honda Accord hatchback as well as a 1994 Honda Accord LX and now I am on my 3rd Honda which is a 2001 Civic EX.
Wow! I bought this 2001 Civic EX about 3 years ago used and just changed the transmission fluid today as I was suspicious that the OBD II code I was getting was related to old tranny fluid. The fluid looked very dirty and smelled like grease. The crap I wiped off of the drain plug magnet had a little metal particles on it but it was mostly a slimy, greasy mass. I should have checked the tranny fluid a long time ago considering that I am the son of a now deceased master heavy equipment mechanic who taught me to keep an eye on things like this. Live and learn right?

Re: Changed my transmission fluid today
usually every 30k miles is the recommended change. the fluid does get very black tho. if the car is shifting fine, i wouldnt worry about it.
