Please Help
Hey guys, just bought an 2004 Civic Si less than a week ago. I changed the oil today and decided to take it for a ride to clean it. I wash the car and engine off and start riding home. I went to pass someone and downshifted from 4th to 3rd, rpms jumped to maybe 5-6k, and suddenly the engine was going hard but the car was not. Check engine light immediately came on.
Thought it was my clutch slipping, but after I got home and smashed stuff around I decided to drive it again and shift a bunch and see if it was a specific gear. To my surprise, I had absolutely no problem on that drive, upshifting, downshifting. Sadly, the Check Engine light is still on though.
Does anyone have the faintest idea of what could have happened?
Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Re: Please Help
Ill get it checked Monday, till then Ill be stressing, lol.
I put 3 litres of oil in, was between the 2 holes on the dipstick, dont think its that.
If the clutch was slipping, could it be intermittent like that? Or would it have slipped again on the second drive?
Only other thing I could think of is when I soaked the engine I got something wet which caused this...again the diagnostic check will shed some light, Im just trying to get piece of mind till then.

Re: Please Help
whoa there you sprayed INSIDE the engine bay? i thought you just washed the car. there are alot of parts under there that hate getting wet. thats why you have a hood to protect them from water damage. just let it dry off and hope it goes away tomorrow. but either way have an auto store check the engine light im sure they are open on weekends and theyll hook it up free. then we can help you better.

Re: Please Help
Definitely my first blonde moment with this car then.
Took it for a ride today, and the light turned itself off. Should I bother still bringing it in, or does that basically tell me the engine didnt like the water, but now thats it dry the diagnostic checks out, and just dont do it again?

Re: Please Help
I constantly sprayed the **** out of my engine bay and never had any problems. I have continued this practice with my D21 and still no problems. Go to Vatozone and they will still be able to pull the code even though the CEL is not lit anymore.

I dont know what the Canadian equivalent to that place will be...is the diag tool itself too much to buy? Sounds like a good investment if its reasonably priced.

Re: Please Help
You can find them on Ebay for around $50 - well worth the money in my opinion.
