Input shaft is on its last leg, what transmission should i get?

hey guys. well last night my car finally started to get way worse than normal. The clicking noise whet away and is making a different humming noise. it sounds like there are pieces of bearings hitting the walls of the transmission. I was wondering what manual transmission is more bulletproof than this type. My clutch is also grabbing high. could this be because of the bad transmission? How much money will this cost? 1-2 thousands?

also here are some stats that you might like. I bought the car with 149K an about 2 weeks later, this noise started happening. The gears where working perfectly and nothing was feeling wrong. I brought it to the dealership and said it was the input shaft. He said its fine to drive on. well 1 1/2 years later, it finally broke. I can barely put it in any gear.

Driving on a bad input shaft with medium - hard driving will last around 22K miles before it gives way.

A used transmission would run you about $400 give or take, without labor. You can only put one of two transmissions on a d17 that i know of. one is the EX model's transmission with shorter gearing, you can find the actual gear ratios on here. the other is the LX model's transmission with longer gearing (a lot of people like it for turbo apps.) You should probably get a quote though unless you plan on doin this yourself, then look on ebay for 2001 to 2005 civic transmissions and there will be a bunch of options on the search.

A transmission place is going to do it. Its a 2002 Civic LX 5 speed. You cant put the Si transmission in there?

You can put a "Canadian" Si transmission on there not an American one, depending where your from. Otherwise the EX transmission is the same one on the SI in Canada I believe.
