Water Leaking Into Trunk

Just about every time it rains really hard outside, I will get into my car later to smell a strong, stagnant odor. Come to find out, there is a leak directing water straight to my trunk where the spare is located. If anyone else has had this happen to them and know where the leak might be coming from please let me know. Thanks!

Re: Water Leaking Into Trunk

i had a huge leak problem. first start by removing the carpet pieces and cardboard. then next time it rains, sneak into the trunk from the back seat with flashlight and with the trunk closed, see if you can spot water coming from around the weather seal where the trunk lid meets the car body. if not, look at the sides and above. make sure there are no holes where the wheel wells are to the outside. if there is water dripping from the sides on top but you cant see where its coming from, you have my problem. it ended up being a worn seal on the plastic trim on the OUTSIDE of the rear door window. i pulled it off, and its actually held on by clips and there are holes in the body. what happened was water would leak in through there and travel a long ways to the trunk where it would drip down from the side and eventually to the spare tire area. i put some liquid rubber sealer on the clips and then pushed the trim back in. that was the last time it leaked any water.

Re: Water Leaking Into Trunk

Thank you so much for your advice! I did make an observation on one occasion that the cardboard lid above the spare did get saturated, and I guess from there it leaks into the spare tire area. So I guess that it's dripping from the top of the lid. But I just recently had a lot of body work done due to major hail damage, that of which included a complete replacement of the roof panel. It's all their fault

yeah body work caused mine to leak as well... if you can, take it back to the shop. it took me weeks to find the leak and fix it. i had a hole in the wheel well too and in the trunk seam at first.

Re: Water Leaking Into Trunk

In mine it was where they drilled too big a hole for the trunk pin for the alarm. Water was getting around it and corroded it.
