Click on slow acceleration

I've read many of the posts here about a click sound when slowly accelerating from 1st to 2nd gear and there have been a variety of diagnoses, from drivetrain to cv joints, but no clear explanation.

Well it's happening to my 2003 Civic (64 400 Km). Started in August when it was really warm out, but not so much now (much cooler).

I've read that it would be the CV joint if the click was happening while turning at slow speed, but that's not my case. It clicks when I'm in 1st going straight - just 1 click. Sometimes happens as I'm going into 2nd, but never from 2nd to 3rd, occasionally slowing down from 2nd to 1st.

My mechanic did some poking around and wants to replace my CV - but I'm just not convinced.

Has there been any recent information about this type of problem - or anyone that has been able to resolve it ?

Thanks !!

Re: Click on slow acceleration

could be ur CV, but could be alot of things...

take it to another few mechanics and let them check it out. if they wont do it for free, they aren't good mechanics.

Re: Click on slow acceleration

hey, guess what: my friend's car just started doing the same freaking things last night. we were at McDonalds and heard a click when he rolled forward, and then again when he gassed it, and then again when he went to stop... lol

i think it's either the tranny, the CV or something in the suspension...

he is having a mechanic look at it as we speak so ill get back to u on it.

Re: Click on slow acceleration

ok... it was his exhaust...

he had a tiny hole in his resonator and it made a clicking noise every time his exhaust moved... idk... thats just what the mechanic said...

ill let u know if anything else comes up.

btw, the noise stopped for now.

Re: Click on slow acceleration

Axle nuts are loosening off, its sitting on the notch safety. The click your hearing is the small amount of play in the spline.

Re: Click on slow acceleration

well, now i'm hearing the click more when i slow down and put the gear in second - if i let the car jerk a little, then the click is really obvious.
i'll mention the axle nuts to my mechanic - which i'll be going to soon to get my winter tires on.
does outside temperature have anything to do with this ? i.e. it's getting cooler out now.
