Got T-Boned

Friday the 13th was not good for me... I got t-boned by a large SUV which pretty much destroyed the rear end of my car and spun the car around. Both rear quarters are damaged, deck lid is damaged, rear bumper and support damaged, rear passenger tire is no longer straight, and the frame has a bend near the rear tire.
Insurance agent is supposed to assess the damage on Monday. Do you think it's fixable, or does it look totaled?

Re: Got T-Boned

I have mixed feelings regarding whether they repair or total the car... I really like this car and like the body style of the 2004-2005 better than the new Civic, so I may try to buy a used 2005 Sedan if they total the car and then reuse my bolt-ons. If they total the car, and I get something else then I will be selling the rims, exhaust and intake. Luckily I still have all of my stock parts, but I don't have OEM floor mats.
I just had the timing package done about 5,000 miles ago, too.

Re: Got T-Boned

I have full coverage, so the only expense I have to worry about is the deductible which is either $250 or $500. If they total the car, I still owe about $2,500 and I would assume the value to be around $7,500 - $8,000 since they are selling these cars used for at least $10,000. I bought the car new in 2004 and take VERY good care of it, so I kinda hope they can fix it. My back and ribs are F'n killing me from the accident!

Re: Got T-Boned

Totaled.

Yes, anything can be fixed and there has been much worse then this. Obviously with unlimited funding you can do everything, but unless you birthed your first born son in this car I doubt it has that much sentimental value.

If you go through insurance they will total this car; and they should, the frame looks damn ****ed up.

This has to be atleast 6000$ in damage. Usualy cars are totaled when the damage exceeds 70% of the cars value.

Damn jacked up SUVs and trucks really **** up a car when they hit it. They usualy smoke you right above all your reinforcement.

What's the story here? SUV driver at fault? Was the car drivable or is there any mecanical/suspension damage?

Re: Got T-Boned

No tickets were issued at the accident scene, but here's basically what happened.
I was driving eastbound on a 4 lane non divided road and wanted to turn left into a parking lot. On coming traffic had slowed down because a vehicle was making a left turn and a guy in a big truck stopped and motioned for me to complete my turn. What he and I failed to see was the SUV hauling *** in the outer lane, which nailed me as I was cutting across both lanes into the parking lot. The SUV struck the rear passenger tire area, the car spun 180* and I ended up facing the opposite direction. The SUV had very little damage. Of course the guy who motioned for me to turn failed to stick around, even though the accident happened right in front of him. If I had to guess, I would say the SUV was traveling at least 50 mph. I had the car towed home because the rear tire is sitting at roughly a 30* angle so I don't know how drivable the car is. Yes, the frame is bent near the rear tire. I've been looking online at local dealerships and they want anywhere between $12,000 - $15,000 for a comparable replacement (which is about what I paid for this car new).

Re: Got T-Boned

this is basicly the same type of damage that happened to my dads car. he got hit in the rear passenger corner by a drunk driver in a bronco and it smashed the entire rear quarter in up to the backseat, put like a 45 degree kink in the frame above the wheel and bent the wheel. He was sent doing donuts across two lanes of highway and through the grass median to end up on the other side of the highway facing the opposite direction. this is why i want a landcruiser or hummer

Re: Got T-Boned

I'm still waiting for AIG to send an adjuster out to look at the car. The accident happened on Friday and they are saying that it could be Thursday before the adjuster comes out. AIG sucks!

Re: Got T-Boned

I received an email which states that "the vehicle has reached the total loss threshold" which means that it's totaled.
Now I get to start fighting with my adjuster over the "fair market value" of the Civic. Tomorrow I plan to put the OEM exhaust, intake and wheels back on, and possibly the stock stereo. Probably going to buy a new Civic, so above mentioned parts may be for sale shortly (prefer local sales). I'm hoping to get around $10k for payoff... but we'll see. The car hardly even had a door ding prior to the accident and the interior is perfect.

Re: Got T-Boned

I went to look for a new Civic but drove away with an Accord coupe. The insurance company finally coughed up $9,000 for the car and I also took off the rims, exhaust, intake, head unit and sub/amp setup before they picked up the car. Once I sell all this stuff, I should pocket another $700 - $800. Anyone in the DFW area looking for a Magnaflow catback or an AEM intake?
Anyway, here's a picture of my new ride...

Re: Got T-Boned

oh man.... way better looking than the new civics. i really like the new civics but i love the accord. please tell me you got the v6... those things are sweet and come with like almost 300 hp. how much did that end up costing after insurance? did you have the civic payed off or still on a loan

Re: Got T-Boned

Personally, I also think the Accord coupe looks better than the Civic. I did not get the v6 because I drive 500 miles per week just going to work so I needed mpg more than I needed mph. Even with the 4 banger it's pushing 190hp, which is only 7 hp less than the Civic Si. I pocketed about $5,700 after payoff and put it all down on the Accord.

Re: Got T-Boned

nice. yeah did you have an option between the 170 or 190 hp engine? I didn't really understand which engines were offered... are there two different 4's plus the v6?
I really want a black accord

I think there's just the 4 and the 6... don't think they offer 3 engine sizes, but I could be wrong.

Nice accord! It's also cool you picked the color silver.

I really like the new accord's larger rim options.
