Is there a fix for this? Automatic Transmission Related

So I aquirred an low millage 03 honda for a steal of a deal Civic EX w/ automatic transmission...which will become my dd

none the less, despite all the misc. bolt-ons that I took out and replaced with stock parts.

it had one problem, on the gauge cluster where it indicates what gear you are in is totally off from what is actually indicated..

the car does this:

Half way between Park and Neutral is Reverse, then Neutral is Drive, etc...

what could be causing this and is there a way to fix this myself?

I believe one source that started this problem is the prev. owner, riced up the auto shift console by remove the auto shift plate & indicator and replacing it with a push down shifter and leather boot. so may have thrown off alignment when he re-installed it.

so any suggestions?

ya he prolly messed up the gear selector. idk not much you can do except open it up and make sure everything is attached properly. otherwise you need a new piece.
