Will Si help me forget about my G 35
Will Si help me forget about my G 35
Hello everyone. I am about to trade in my 2003 G35 6 MT with 57,500 miles and getting a brand new 2008 Civic Si. Will the si's performance help me get over getting rid of my G? I hear great things about the Si, and the fact that I will get a lot of the features on the Si except Xenon lights, power and heated seats and the horsepower, but what do i expect for paying close to $20,000 less, right? Should i do it?
Re: Will Si help me forget about my G 35
It's definitely a whole different ballgame, but at the same time there are quite a few people over @ www.8thcivic.com that have made the trade and they love the si. The trade off is that the g35 has power and the si is just a blast to drive. Rev to 8k all day. The si is tossable whereas the g has... well.. torque. Torque is always fun, especially when packaged with something as wonderful as the g35.
Hell idk man, just go test drive one (or find someone on the forums that will let you test theirs) and see how much you like it. You might be better of going for an ms3 or an srt4.

What sucks is the 08 si's are not out yet, and the there is no dealer in my area that has a new 07 si. I did test drive a EX and i did like the shifting and i am sure the handling will be better once i change the sway bars, throw in a shorter shifter, high-flow cats and exhaust. I am almost certain i will make the change but i am still a little undecided. Thanks for the advice and maybe i will be a si owner

I would say that you should go for the si. The 08's have the addition of a tire pressure monitoring system so hopefully that won't raise the price too much. You could also always just give it a short period of time because with the 08's rolling onto the lots I'm sure they'll be there soon.
Another warning, you might want to change your tranny fluid once you do pick up the si. There has been a lot of complaining about how 3rd gear will grind when driving spiritedly, but a lot of those people have swapped out the honda tranny fluid for gm syncromesh(sp) and they say that it goes away completely.
The only other thing I would warn you about is the frailty of the interior. A lot of owners are complaining about how fragile the interior is and how ridiculously easy it will scuff/scratch. For a lot of people this is just something they can look over and just learn to be careful while others dwell on it as if it's the worst thing that's ever happened to any car in the history of the world. I guess it depends on how you look at things.
The best advice I can give you is to do your research. If you're in a position to spend $35k (or so) you might want to hold out for another year and pick up a bmw 135i when it comes out. Twin turbo inline 6 w/300hp and a 6spd tranny.. not to mention the fact that it comes with 4 years of free maintenance.
My point is there's a lot of cars out there and you might find one that you like a little better or you might find out that the si is perfect for what you're looking for. It's definitely a great bargain, there's no doubting that.

there completely different kind of class of cars. Your going from sporty luxury to sporty economy car. The Si will seem a lot more at home around the corners then the g35 but your going to lose the off the line torque of the g35.
