I got a 2003 Honda Civic 4drs, 79,000kms. When it is from stop (in a stop sign, traffic light) to move, or when it is in 30-40kms/h, there is a "thunk" noise. Sometimes from the front bottom, sometimes from the rear bottom. But when I run highway, the car is very smooth, no noise at all. Anyone knows what is the problem? Thanks.

is it a constant noise or only when you accelarate

It is no a constant noise. I took it to a Honda dealer, they can not check it out if they can not hear it. They said maybe it is the brake, because I did not change the brake. But the "thunk" noise only happen one time when my car is from stop to move or when I was driving at 30-40kms/h. The noise does happen when I am braking. I drive my car over a bump, no noise also.

I'm not quite sure what it is, because I think I would need a more detailed description. Was the thunk sound loud, or quiet? Did it sound like metal on metal? Or was it metal on plastic? Is it a single thunk or multiple? Where exactly do you mean when you said bottom or rear bottom? Do you have suspension modifications? Are the springs set properly? Do you have your spare tire bolted down tight? Do you have an aftermarket exhaust? Is it hitting the bumper? Do you have lawn gnomes in your trunk? Did you get a furby for christmas?

i had that problem too and my clutch was slipping at the sametime so i decided to change my clutch first then figure out what that noise was later but after the clutch change the noise was gone and never came back ...

No modify to my civic. I never touched it, it was a brand new car when I bought it from a Honda dealer. It is only a single "thunk", not quiet. It is something like metal on metal. Sometimes it is from the front bottom, sometimes it is from the rear bottom. There is nothing in my trunk too. So what is the noise from?
