new wheel stud, new noise.
new wheel stud, new noise.
Alright i searched this topic for about an hour and have read that most people that have sever road noise have worn out wheel bearings...
Here's my dilemma. Thursday i stripped a wheel stud in my passenger front wheel. Friday i drove 5 miles to Firestone and they replaced the stud and the guy says he replaced the hub too (since the stud stripped the hole). However, he did not replace the wheel bearing b/c he said it was still in good shape. I paid the $400 for parts and labor and drove home. On the way home i noticed that the car sounded like a truck with mud tires on it. It didn't sound that way before i took it into the shop 3 hours prior (with a broken stud i might add)... The sound is always there and gets progressively louder and higher pitched when i increase my speed.
I took it back to the shop today and the same guy put it on the lift and had an assistant 'drive' it while it was up there. We both listened to it, with a stethoscope, while the wheels were spinning and there is no sound coming from the passenger hub. We both however noticed that the driver side bearing is squeaking and my clutch is about to die
.
I guess my question is this: Should i get the bearing replaced anyway? Even though it doesn't make a sound while rotating and listening with a stethoscope...
He's telling me that it's coming from the driver's side even though they didn't do anything to that side. And I'm telling him no it's not coming from that side b/c it wasn't making the mud tire sound when i brought it in the day before. It's not shitty tires either... Someone please help me... I should probably get the driver's side one replaced b/c it DOES squeak.
sorry for the long post...it's my hundredth...gotta do something special.
