installed header and test pipe

i'm not looking for answers, but figured i'd post for those who might be interested. I posted this on another thread but it was way old.

i just installed the megan header and test pipe with resonator. car seems more rev happy, has a deeper tone, and maybe 5-10mph faster top speed wise.

i re-used both of my original o2 sensors in the test pipe. CEL light is on, but I can reset the ECU and it goes away for 30-50 miles, but comes back on eventually.

strange thing i've noticed is that when i reset the light and it is OFF, car idles up and down between 1k and 2k - somewhat rapidly. once the CEL light comes back on my idle problem goes away.

i've read some of the posts where people say megan doesn't properly heat treat the o2 sensor bungs and you wind up burning out the sensors shortly after installation. I may check the diagnostic code eventually to see what it is but for now I'm content with the CEL ON.

Re: installed header and test pipe

You are probably getting the CEL because the testpipe has no cat in it, so the first and second o2 sensors are reading the same which makes it think there is something wrong with our cat. You can either do a electronic o2 sim or go to autozone or any other car parts store and buy a spark plug non fouler and drill out the center of it with a 1/2" drill bit and put that in between the o2 sensor and the bung on the test pipe.

oopss.. just noticed tfnaaf's post and the DIY, follow that!

Re: installed header and test pipe

When you reset the CEL you're not doing the ide relearn are you? The o2s are probably the cause of the CEL and once the CEL is on the car runs in safe mode, hence the better idle. Go get the code read, and fix the o2 as above.
