Can Thermostat go bad, if Thermoswitch Sensor went bad?

Ive been having wierd overheating problems, somtimes i get no heat, somtimes i do, somtimes the temp gauge goes up, somtimes it goes down, its all messed up. I replaced my thermostat in May of 06, and the car was running GREAT untill december..it started doing what i just explained. I took it to honda, the Mech, said it was the thermoswitch sensor, located on the thermostat's housing. He sais he couldnt see any signs of a head gasket being damaged. I replaced the thermoswitch, worked fine for a few days, now its doing it all over again. My question is, can a Thermostat GO BAD from a thermoswitch going bad?

A thermastat could posibbly go bad if the eng. overheated do to a faulty thermoswitch.

When you are having the problem with the heat then no heat issue. check to make sure the rad is at the top, and the overflow is up.
Your problem sounds like low coolant level in the eng.

Re: Can Thermostat go bad, if Thermoswitch Sensor went bad?

its actually called the ECT (engine coolant temp) sensor and yes its important for many different vital car functions including monitoring the temp and sending readings to the ecu. a thermostat will likely not be related to the sensor, it is just a simple wax mechanical switch that opens and closes when the temp gets hot and cold. it can only be influenced directly by the coolant temp.
