Dead battery, need to reset immobilizer?

I bought a 2001 honds civic ex coupe a few days ago and I guess I left the park lights on. Now the battery is dead and after some research and replacement I have come to the conclusion that the immobilizer is keeping me from starting the car. When I attempted to jump start it the horn started blarring so I removed the horn fuse and after several failed attempts at jumping and pop starting I did more research on the immobilizer and decided this may be my problem. Does anyone out there know how to get my vehicle going again?
I get no response at all when I turn the key, no lights, no sound, nothing. This is my first car out of the eighties and I had no experience whatsoever with alarms and especially this nuisance of an immobilizer, but I guess I know it works. My internet research isn't much help and is a little ominous after seeing several accounts that not even the dealership could help with such things. Plus it is the holiday weekend and I won't be able to contact the local Honda maintenace team for a few days. Any help would be appreciated, the only truly similar thread I saw suggested turning on the ignition for ten minutes to try resetting the anti-theft devices or perhaps some mysterious button under the brake pedal. This did nothing for me and I found no such button. Any ideas? Sorry for the long wind.

sounds like a dumb suggestion, but did you turn off the alarm before you tried to start the car? it sounds like the alarm is still armed so you cant start it up.

well if you get nothing when trying to start, no crank, no lights, nothing, the immobilizer is not the problem. sounds like you may have damaged something with repeated attempts to jump start the car. these days with all of the electronics, you could have damaged the ecm. check the battery fuse first.

if thats good, check the battery. batteries will be so dead that even jump starting wont do anything.

mechanical idiot

Thanks for the suggesstions. I will take a look at that fuse and maybe try to figure out how to shut off the alarm. Anyone know of an easy way to get that done without the remote? I won't be able to get a new battery for it until Wed. or Thurs. I don't know how serious damaging the ecu can be from jumpstarting but I hope it isn't a lot more expensive than a new battery and some fuses.

jumpstarting should always be a last resort. I have never seen it happen, but where I work, with some of the cars you cant jump start accross the battery. some of them ground off through control modules and jumpstarting will fry the control unit.

But I dont see the alarm being the issue here. even if the alarm was the issue, you would still be able to turn the key and have all the lights light up and what not. you said you get nothing which leads me to beleive the battery is dead or you blew the battery fuse.

Thanks again, the fuse and battery were the problems. You have saved me from once again going to the mechanic and looking stupid as they charge me exorbitant amounts of cash to replace a fuse. Just curious is there ever a safe way to jump start this car? Not that I would try now, just wondering.

the way I do it at work is use a jumper box. the best way to jumpstart is to follow the procedure in the owners manaul. But sometimes there is a surge or spike when jumpstarting and that damages something. in your case, your fuse blew. or somehow someone put the jumpers on backworkds.
