Does it smell more like a clutch burning? because if it does its your brake pads heating up. Is the car brand new? or do you have a few thousand miles on it. Does it smell all the time or once in a while?? I know I asked many questions but if I know more I might beable to help you.

take it to the dealer, could be a problem in the master cylinder causing the brakes to lightly engage (happened on my old camaro)

Have you looked real good under the hood and car itself?? Maybe you picked up a plastic garbage bag from the road and its stuck to your exhaust. That happened to me many years ago.

It could be the brand of brake pads you are using.

There is a service bullitin on the 2k1 civic that says part of the intake manifold breaks off and causes major problems it could possily be that.

You probably ran over a plastic bag and it's stuck where your mid pipe is. Try looking under your car. The smell is your car being hot and trying to burn off the plastic. I'm almost 100% sure it's that b/c i had the same thing

Hey Solar,
My Civic is an 02 with about 3800 miles and its a manual. I smelled that the other day. It smelled like burning clutch but I wasnt riding my clutch or anything. Do you have any ideas what this is? Should I get it checked out?
