A $3,635 bill just for brakes.
A $3,635 bill just for brakes.
I took my car to Midas here in Louisiana, and I told them that there was power fluid in the brake system. I told them I needed a flush but they told me, "we have to change everything". They said "we do a free brake check", told them "Fine do it" well they gave me this huge bill $3,635.82. Said they needed to change the calipers(calipers were changed a month before) they said calipers were damaged. Also replace wheel cylinders, master cylinder,Replace ABS Module, replace 4 brakes hoses, brake system flush and bleed. What do you guys think. Thanks.

My first thought was Oh wow a first ever Porsche/Ferrari cermic discs with an 8 piston caliper system on a civic, damn that's pretty cheap! Anyway the same thing sorta happened to me once. I took my car to this shop who charged me up the ***. The guys at the shop fvcked up my system so bad that I was running around with no rear brakes and incorrectly installed front setup. The result about week later I slammed into a brand new PT Cruiser causing 6 grand in damage to my car. learn to your own brakes it's so simple.

damn, same **** happend when my dad took my mom's 4runner to justbrakes for them to check out because it felt like slipping. They said that there was pws fluid in the the brake fluid resovoir and the told us that just about everything in the brake system needed to be replaced, but they quoted 4250 or so. A week later i just bleeded the system, and changed out master cylinder and it's fine now. I dunno to me it seems like they overexaggerated everything.

Well, actually, PS fluid, if thats what was in the brakes, is petroleum based IIRC, and if you put that into the brake lines, it would have f-ed everything up (it would have swelled the seals and rendered them useless) and forced them to replace it, but still, not for that much money.

i think he was just quoted that price. either way- **** that! you could do a si brake swap for that price and put steel lines and breembos in the front and still have a dollar left!
HAHA Hell no i didn't pay, when they told me over the phone i was like shittt thats alot. I came into the shop, I know that price is bull ,but i listen to him, he said that the seals are worn down, telling me that it was a corrosive liquid that it ate everything. I drive that car alot, went to miami from Louisiana nothing happen, the brakes only stick in the city when i used the brakes alot. He told me i wouldnt make it to Baton Rouge(1hr 20min away from New Orleans)not even 15min away, he said that the car is so mess up that he can barely let me go, that if i take it to another shop the mechanic might not let me go until i get that fixed. Yea right
. He thinks because im 21 im stupid or don't know when im being scammed. When I took the car to get the calipers change the mechanic told me there was oil on the brake system, that i should only change the hoses and get the system flushed. Someone told me to do a solvent flush, were do i buy the solvent, or do i just flush the brake system? If you want i can scan the estimate so you guys can see.

i have kinda the same problem.. i have slotted/drilled rotors, monroe brake pads, new calipers...... it seems like its not relieving pressure and only happens after they warm up, once smoke was rolling out from my pads, i pulled over and sat for about 15 minutes, its fine it goes to a really soft pedal tho.. when they start to stick, every time i press the pedal after that the tighter they grab..
any suggestions??? would be really appreciated to keep me from from that type of bill!!!!
this problem has been happening ever since i replaced the driver side caliper, shortly after that i bought the passenger side caliper thinking that was the problem. but no.
i noticed once there was brake fluid on top of the rubber seal thats on the cover, is this rubber supposed to separate from the cover???? should the rubber be completely inside the resivoir or should it be around the lip of the resivoir so the cover fits tight??? my cover is a little loose, and the rubber usually ends up being stuck in the hole everytime i take the cover off.
