01 honda civic sedan "check engine" question
01 honda civic sedan "check engine" question
I have a 01 Honda Civic Sedan Ex and my "check engine" light turned on. I went to autozone and borrowed the OBDII to see what the codes were and it turned out that I had to errors. One was P1298 (a bad ELD Circuit) and P0740 (TCC circuit malfunction).
The next day, I took my car to a local honda dealer and had them run a check to see what was wrong with my car. It turns out that they also got P1298 as an error but instead of getting the P0740 code, they said that both front motor mount and transmissions side mount were broken.
I was just curious to know how would my motor mounts break? I mean I never got into an accident before so does the motor mounts normally break?
Also how reliable is the OBD machine?

yes, engine mounts do go bad, especially if you drive really hard, but if you have an automatic, you can put it in drive, and put your foot on the brake while giving it gas, if the motor moves a lot, like 2 or 3 inches, then a motor mount could be broken, but usually motor mounts dont go bad for like 100,000 miles, but anything is possible.
How would you tell if you "drive hard" or not? I mean, I have an automatic so I can't really redline the car. I rarely go over 4RPM when I acclerate and keep my driving under 80MPH on the highway. The only thing I can think about is my speed bumps that I have in my apts. I don't really slow down on them...
Also, my car has around 64000 miles, was bought brand new from the dealership and has never been in an accident.
What about the P0740 that the OBD2 gave me? Was it just reading the code incorrectly?
Thanks

could be, or one code could have come on, and shut off, while another code was thrown, the obd2 does constant checks, and can shut itsself off, i had an iat sensor that threw an engine code, and i plugged it back in whaddya kno, it turned back off. as far as the speed bumps, that could do it, but u never know, id get a second opinion before you spend any money...
