Overheating at high speeds
Overheating at high speeds
Hi everyone
I have a 95 civic se and recently(month ago) i had a waterpump(aftermarket) and timing belt installed. Now with the hotter weather my car is starting to overheat while driving on the highway, city driving is ok. The rad and thermostat was changed 3 years ago. I've tried to bleed the system through the bleed and it seems like no bubbles and the fan cycles, I had the car idling for an hour and still never got it to overheat. Any ideas?
Oh it seems to overheat fast if I'm using the A/C.
Thanks

Check the T stat again, and check for bubbles again, you may even want to just pay and have it purged with a power flush type thing. It will overheat faster with the AC on, leave it off, if it overheats, turn the heater on full blast.
If the waterpump is new, check and make sure its working properly.

I wouldn't mind doing the power flush but it hard finding a place that'll do it...even the honda dealer I goto just drains and refills. Maybe I'll put a new OE T-stat in. But one thing I'm notsure how can I check to see if the waterpump is working properly? (the waterpump is new but its aftermarket) I normally used OE part till this time, D'oh
Ok
I drained the rad and refilled it to try and force some of the air out and the T stat seems to be ok, and the problem didn't either way. So I wonder If a head gasket (leaking internal) would give me this same problem (overheating only at high speeds)... I'm not saying it is I'm just throwing suggestion because its starting to puzzle me?
Thanks

My 97 Si did that to me. I had a rock go through my rad, and a shop put an after market rad in it for me when i was on a roadtrip. The core of the rad wasn't as thick as the oem one with a/c and over 110km/h or 55 mph the temp needle would just climb. Replaced it with an after market again it even had a built in tranny oil cooler that i didn't need, but it worked like a top.
Just an update:
I pulled the plugs and found 3 out of 4 spark plugs were white... which I guess it would be a leaking head. Hmmmmm
317,000km you think I should repair or not? the body is starting to rust out.
