Brake Problem
Brake Problem
I have a 2002 Civic DX 5 speed. It has about 130 000 KM (80 000 miles). My brake pedal has been getting more and more spongy I guess.....it has more travel than it used to. Also when I push the brake pedal, then release it, I get a sort of squeaking sound, that isn't really from in the car, it almost feels like it comes from under the hood. The car has never had any brake work done, it doesn't have any shake when I brake either. Any ideas as to what the problem could be?
Thanks

Time for new pads, shoes, and a bleeding. Should be like new again.
That sound is from the brake booster. It's normal, you hear it only because of the longer pedal travel.
80,000 miles on the original brakes??? That's pretty good!

yea, probably new brake pads and whatnot. If you're DIY, make sure to lube up all the sides, back (shims), brackets, and even sliders to ensusre they dont squeal. It stops the squeaks from low speed braking.
Oh yea, and buy a couple bottles of brake cleaner and also get a mask, you really dont wanna breathe that stuff in...no matter how fun you think it is. lol
