List of common problems with 7th Gens?
Coming from my 98 Civic I see maybe it was the better car. I know now that the 7th Gens have trans problems from reading here. What other common problems do they have? Let's create a list.
if you look at the list of tsbs for both generations, there are actually more tsbs for 6th gens...
the reason you might not hear so much about the 6th gens is because back in 1996, there weren't any 6th gen civic forums to list complaints about the car....by the time honda reached end of production of 6th gens, honda had already fixed most of the bugs...

this depends on what year Civic you have as well.... there tends to be alternator problems, and front shock problems. Of course 7thgens also tend to rattle a lot.

to make a general statement will be tough...... might have to look into each individual year. But of the 7thgen's 02 and up seems to be ok.... 01 had a bit more problems. From my experience, older Honda's were built better. My 02 CIvic at 15K miles had more squeaks and rattles than my brother's 93 Del Sol at 100K miles.....
older hondas were built strong is damn right...my 92 accord had 130k, then it was turbod, and ran for a while then took it off and sold it, and never had one problem with it...
everything was steel, cast iron blocks, etc...

the seat rocking problem is a free fix at a dealer, or atleast should be, I had them fix mine they got a bushing kit and it's all good. those seats are now in my dad's civic, and he hasnt complained either.. it was fixed soon after i got the car, early 04 probably..
i got my seat fixed twice and it still rocks. first time i got the bushings in, a year later, it started rocking again. so i got the dealer to replace everything under the seat, 6 months after, it started rocking again, its just a bad design i believe that existed in the 01-02 models. Auto tranny is not the best. Also rattles, they never stop. 04-05 seems a lot better with the new interior.
That only happens if you rock the seat much, right? My seat doesn't normally move that much... people enter my back seat from the passenger side, usually, and I never move the seat to make me fit. It's just slung back all the way
Being 6'2" has it's advantages!

Depending on how you drive it, the front brakes tend to either warp rotors or uneven build up of pad material. I am just shy of 60k and had (I think) my 5th (might be the 4th) front brake job done today. I hate any shimmy in the steering wheel, and it always seems to come right back after a short time. This time I used Hawk pads and Brembo discs, so maybe things will stay true for longer.
Some people have no issues with this, but if you read the braking forums, you'll see that I'm not alone with this issue.
Other than that, it's all good 03AT CPE.

i only dont have much issues cause i try not to brake above 40mph. its silly but works. and it helps to have all the lug nuts torqued to spec.

yea its a pain, while my car was under the warranty i just brought it in, it took the dealership a week to fix it, they left my front seat dissassemble for a whole week cuz they didnt have the parts for it, i told them i needed my car just reassemble my loose seat for me, i just took it to another dealer and got it fixed right away. so note to the bay area people, dont go to SF Honda, ive gotten bad service from there multiple times. note to the LA ppl, Miller Honda has been awesome for the 3 times ive been there.
